Yes, providing the bass has a battery compartment or sufficient space in the control cavity to accommodate a 9 Volt battery. Please note: the standard Precision design does not have enough space for this modification, which is why the P-Retro was designed with an integral rechargeable battery.
Only perform this modification if you’re confident in working with electronics wiring systems and use insulative sleeving as shown in the picture.
